Work title: Emergent Border City (0000801630)Description:
The border is going to be used as a mediator device, a field of possibilities that are heightened or diminished according to “attractors” on each side of the wall. Spontaneous self-organization economies can share and synchronize local and personal knowledge, allowing society's members to achieve diverse, complicated ends building on their individual needs and experiences. The frantic condition along the separating wall/border would suggest a spectrum of possibilities (housing, trade, knowledge exchange, etc), coupled with a spectrum of dangers (security breaches, illegal immigration, unwanted cultural infiltrations, etc). By coupling both, a searching device emerges to find over many generations, more or less stable solutions to problems posed by the environment.
